The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology of the University Hospital Zurich (www.usz.ch)
is a key academic center offering the whole range of diagnostic and
therapeutic options in gastroenterology and hepatology. The diagnostic
services include all diagnostic endoscopic procedures, such as
gastroscopy, colonoscopy, endosonography, ultrasonography, functional
tests including breath tests, all interventional endoscopic techniques
including for example ERCP, mucosectomy techniques for early mucosal
cancer, radioablation techniques for tumors of the esophagus, the liver
and the bile ducts. Special consultation teams including internationally
reknown experts take care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease
(Crohn, colitis ulcerosa), hepatological diseases such as hepatitis B
and C, hepatocellular cancer, including liver transplantation,
functional diseases such as achalasia, gastroesophageal reflux,
anorectal diseases. In the division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology
several internationally reknown research groups focus on important
clinical problem in this field such viral hepatitis, functional
problems, inflammatory bowel diseases are funded by major grants from
the Swiss National Science Foundation and other major funding
organizations.
